Little Bad Wolf

“Dad,” said Little Bad one day, “do you ever get tired of being. . . bad?”

“What do you mean?” said his dad, the Big Bad Wolf.

“Well,” said Little Bad, “I don’t always feel bad. In fact, I feel good most of the time!”

Big Bad picked a tiny bone out of his pointy teeth with a long, sharp claw and had a good think.

“I guess,” he said, “it’s our job. Us wolves have always been ‘the baddies!’”

Little Bad stroked his furry ear. “Oh, I see,” he said, although he didn’t see at all. He was just about to ask another question when. . .

“Sorry to interrupt,” said a small bear. “I’m Baby Bear. And we bears have exactly the same problem. . .”

“Take the other day,” Baby Bear continued. “I went for a quick walk, and when I got back, a girl with yellow hair had eaten my porridge and broken a chair.

Then I found her asleep on my bed—with her shoes on, too!”

“I don’t wear shoes,” said Little Bad.

“Me neither,” said Baby Bear. “Anyway, the girl ran away screaming as soon as she saw me. And I didn’t even growl!”

“Didn’t she say sorry?” asked Little Bad. But before Baby Bear had a chance to answer there was a loud. . .

“Ahh-chooo!” from an old lady wearing a pointed black hat. She landed her broomstick with great skill, and propped it against a tree.

“Sniff. Sorry. It’s the pollen,” she said. “Think you’ve got it bad? Everyone always calls me the Wicked Witch,” she shook her head sadly.

The Witch blew her nose loudly into a spotted handkerchief.

“You seem charming,” said Little Bad. Baby Bear quickly agreed.

Little Bad, Baby Bear and the Witch were crossing a small stream when. . .
